Ethics of research

The ethics behind certain research needs to be discussed. If your research offends people then is it worth publishing?

  1. This relates nicely to the INSAD newsagent coursework we have to do and the ETHICS report we need to get signed off before we can go ahead and getting information off the newsagent. If the information that is being published is going to harm someone in a way that they were not being harmed before then its not right to publishing the information.

  2. But isn't it some peoples jobs i.e journalists at tabloid newsagents (the sun) to create debate and expose scandal's regardless of how some peoples morals look at it?

  3. This comment is a interesting one, and will bring many points of views. When it comes to the newspapers, how much of the information that is printed in the sun or star can be said is true? (Although most of the time it ends being right) The idea of the newspaper is to report news to people, although most if not all newspapers will have a article that points out someone's scandal in the public eye. BUT, the stuff that is published in the newspaper is not research of such through questionnaires or interviews,, the information is got from someone following them doing activities, i guess the scandals that are reported in the news can be seen more as news then research.

  4. this post links well with my one (above) because at some point something somewhere will always offend people but i think with the sense of mainstream news the editor has to make a decision about how many people it will offend rather than if it will offend.

  5. I think anything should be allowed to be published within reason. There are certain aspects of a persons private life should be kept private and not available for the public to view.

  6. As our society has developed over the last few years for example, the introduction of terrorism, the equality of women and the abolishment of black slavery some peoples views have remained or are that not of the norm. I know I am stereotyping here but I am sure most of the worlds population does not agree with slavery. If a piece of writing is published outlying how slavery should happen is it ethically correct to publish it? Some would say it would be a great learning tool yet other peoples beliefs would think it is horrible and wrong and they would get offended.

  7. It would be correct to publish the information as it will be someones view on the topic and we all have different views on things. Publishing information on slavery would just be freedom of speech which allows us to have our own ideas on things, otherwise we would all have the same views on everything and the world would not develop.

It also gives a different view/idea on slavery and if it should take place or not, which would be helpful to anyone that is looking to write a paper comparing the pros and cons
