I will make a new Post for the different topics that we can talk about. Makes it easier in the end when it comes to putting it all together.
A good place to start could be the cost of publishing research. What are peoples thoughts on this? Are the costs usually greater than how the research is used or how many people use it?
The cost of getting the information is much higher then the cost of publishing information. Money spent on printing of questionnaires, calls made to people ect Are all going to build up to be one very costly bill for the amount of people that you hear back from.
ReplyDeleteThe cost of publishing information can be harmful to someone if a ethics view is not taken out on the research. Publishing information about someone or saying some said something can be costly to them, with the lose of a job (if they are high up as a figure of power) or damage of a reputation
i suppose costs would depend on where and what the research was coming from? I.E. if a large company wants to do it they can support it by however they make their money so it would be seen as part of the process. But to an individual yes, it would probably cost much more than the benefit of return!
ReplyDeleteWith cuts to universities funding and a general economic crisis which has just occured, is it likely that less research will be published due to the fact that the funds are not there? With less research being published or being brought to put into the libraries, will students academic studies be affected because they do not have the resources around them? Personally, I feel that if the cuts do mean that less work is published in universities, in the form of books or journals, we will have to find a new way for students and other academics to view it; open access models for example.
